Hello there. We didn't find too many strictly vegan options in Zadar but were able to make our own meals with items from the supermarket as we were staying in an apartment with a kitchen. Most restaurants would be able to accommodate your request - there is no shortage of restaurants in the old town centre.

Thanks for connecting Jo! Always wonderful to hear from other traveling vegans! Ah, so envious of your upcoming time on Mljet - what an amazing place to escape to. What do you have planned for your time there? And thanks for the heads up re Vegehop...we'll look out for it when our travels take us back through that part of the world. Happy and safe trails to you!

I just found this! My husband and I (both vegan) stay in Polace when visiting Mljet. The two markets (Studenac is a bit better) are great. We also ate at Sperun in Split! Off to Mljet again in August for 3 weeks this time (we never actually want to leave). An excellent restaurant in Zagreb is Vegehop!

Hi there 5sOnTheFly! Thanks for your message and apologies for this very belated reply! We're so happy that you enjoyed our article and hope it's come in handy as you're exploring Split as vegans.

It looks like you're having a great time in Split - it was awesome to look at the photos in your latest blog post and see some familiar spots! We also enjoyed the Split game of picigin - we watched groups of locals for hours one night until after sunset!

Happy and safe travels to your family!

Thank you so much for this great post about being vegan in Croatia. We are a family of 5 traveling vegans. We are currently living in Lucca, Italy and on our way to Split, Croatia. Knowing that you were able to find soy milk and so much more in Split is such good news. Thanks again and we wish you well in your travels.

For South Africans who may be visiting Croatia, their Kuna amounts to exactly double what we would pay in Rands. So a Pizza at 60 Kuna, would cost you R120. We were disappointed that almost all the restaurants, small and large, had Italian food on their menus and if one chose meat or fish dishes, these were extremely expensive for us, due to our weak Rand.
As we were on a package cruise that included a very good breakfast and a 3 course lunch on board every day, we only needed to buy a light meal ashore at night.
